BCBW, a goal-oriented creative children's writers' organization, seeks to attain for its members the following goals:
1. To assist at every phase (idea creation, plot and character development, story elements, editing, etc) in completing works for children in picture books, early readers, chapter books, juvenile, or young adult stories.
2. To assist in seeking solutions to time restraints on writing.
3. To provide access to materials, guidance, and practice in the study of fiction writing.
4. To provide support in the form of technical assistance and emotional support in the creative writing process.
5. To provide assistance editing once a work is completed.
6. To help determine where the member's work fits into the current market.
7. To provide information on publishing once the editing of a work is completed.
8. To provide Internet space for the promotion and display of a sampling of the edited work.
The group functions as an impetus/motivator for the individual member to produce a literary or commercial work for children. Materials and techniques for story creation, character development, dialogue and descriptive composition, and all other aspects of fiction writing will be provided by the mentors of the organization.
